I also have picked up Jane Eyre, determinedly, and set it back down after getting 30ish pages in and stopping. This makes me think I should try again, which I’ve known for years, but I haven’t brought myself to do so yet.

I like Crime and Punishment, though.

Hmm…I’ll also try the first few chapters first, then if it manages to still hold my attention, I’ll continue reading, naturally! There was one book which was downright boring, I didn’t finish it. I don’t even remember the title! It was a story in the form of someone’s diary. Diaries are supposed to be hot, aren’t they? But this one was just plain dull.

And I really like Jane Eyre. It’s one of my favourite books! =D

One book I finally gave up on was Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad. It was loaned to me by a friend, and I was saddened that we’ll never have that cool discussion that you have after you’ve finished a book a friend loaned you. But I have too many kick ass books to feel like I’m “trudging” through something. KWIM?

I think I’m nearly at the stage you are with Harry Potter (though you have already started reading them). Up until recently I had never thought of reading them, but as you have written they have become part of our culture and I find it harder to at least give them a go.

In answer to your question…I’m a lot like yourself, I’ll give it a chapter or two then if it’s not something I’m enjoying I’ll retire it to Bookcrossing or a friend.
