Everybody’s taste changes as they get older and go through different life stage. I think very few authors will hold my attention forever, and I don’t really expect them to. After all, they are people and grow and change too, so when their writing starts to reflect that it only seems natural we might drift apart.

I am not quite ready to give up on LKH. I’m still interested in what happens to her characters and so I’ll hang on for a little while longer. It hasn’t worked out though between Patricia Cornwell and I. As soon as I stopped caring about her characters, I had to say goodbye.

I really enjoyed the first few LKH’s too! I hear the last one is really good though. Not so trashy. I guess I’ll just have to finish the series and see.

I haven’t followed too many authors… I think I read all of Janet Evanovich’s and then got distracted so I have yet to pick up her latest 2 or 3. I’ve always thought I’d get back to them eventually. So, I can’t say this BTT applies to my reading ‘style’ – if that is what you’d call it.

Excellent post and I agree that mood and interests change with time.

I tried to think of an answer for this one but really couldn’t. My own fault, though—I’m always flitting from author to author, so I’m not convinced I stay with one long enough to notice if they fall from grace!

Very good point, Trish, that sometimes we, as readers, simply outgrow some of our once favorite authors, especially those who tend to rely on a similar ‘formula’ in their work.

I can think of several for whom that applies in my case…

Most of the time the latter happens to me, as well: I no longer love the authors I used to because I’m the one who has changed.
