A Night on the Town

About a month ago I turned on a local radio station on a whim; I used to listen to this particular station at this particular time because they have this game that I thought was fun, but I’ve since stopped listening because I have some other stuff I listen to on the way home. But this particular day I happened to catch it right before they started the game called The Commuter’s Quiz. The dj asks a question, and you have to supply the correct answer. For example, “95% of women say they hate it when their man does this in the bathroom…” (the answer will be at the bottom of this post) And people call in and guess what the answer is. Usually people do not get the answer right away; it takes five or ten minutes before the dj gets someone with the right answer.

Anyway, this particular day the question was, “80% of pet owners have one of these…” So I thought, maybe it’s a crate, but no, he didn’t say dog and cat owners, he said pet owners. Maybe it’s a picture of their pet? So I called up (not even knowing the prize offered) and ended up getting through and winning! What did I win? Tickets to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy!!

You might know I lindy hop, so Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was right up my alley. AND, I told the dj that I’d wanted to buy tickets but decided that I can’t really afford them right now, so how awesome is it that I won them! He thought I must have good karma coming my way, but I’d been figuring I must have killed someone on accident considering all the bad luck and bad mojo I’d been experiencing.

So Dave and I went to see them last night. The show was excellent. I really can’t rave enough about it. When most “swing” bands have broken up (because they money’s just not there now that swing isn’t trendy), BBVD has continued to tour and do what they love. BBVD has been together for fifteen years, all of them original band members. I’ve let them fall off of my radar, but I’ll definitely be buying their new album (which is a tribute to Cab Calloway) coming out in July.

The show started at 8:00pm and was over by 9:45pm. How bad am I that the only thing I thought as we were leaving was, “Oh, good, I’ll still have time to go home and write a blog post about this.” *shaking head* I think I might need an intervention here soon. :D

*By the way, the answer to the question above is…leave the cap off the toothpaste. Bet you didn’t guess that. ;)
