The Sister by Poppy Adams GIVEAWAY
I received this book from Barnes & Noble through their First Look Book Club. I was totally excited to read it; it sounded like it would be very compelling! From the back of the book:
‘It’s ten to two in the afternoon and I’ve been waiting for my little sister, Viv, since one-thirty. She’s finally coming home, at sixty-six years old, after an absence of nearly fifty years.’
And so begins the tale of two sisters, Ginny and Vivien, reunited after a long estrangement. Ginny’s been living in the family’s sprawling Victorian home – leaking and creaking, with a ghost of its lavish past lingering – and carrying on the family tradition of the study of moths and butterflies, lepidopterology. But Vivien’s arrival will shake up her sister’s carefully ordered world and bring long buried resentments to the surface.
Told through Ginny’s unforgettable voice – at once childlike and sinister – this is a novel about a family that will destroy itself in the name of love.
I didn’t like the book at all. I did get through 100 pages, and finally decided that book club or no book club, I did not need to be mentally tortured like this. Don’t take my word on this, though; there’s plenty of other people who liked the book:
So I offer up my book to you, dear friend, to see if it can find a better home. I know lots of readers have already received it, but perhaps there is someone out there that will love it in ways that I am incapable?
All you need to do is leave a comment on this post. You don’t even have to say much of anything, just grunt for all I care. If you wish to receive two (count them one two) extra entries, you can post about it on your blog. For those of you who are blogless, you can send a friend to comment, and if they mention your name, you will get two extra entries as well. You have until Sunday, March 30th at 8:00pm, California time (I know that’s not the technical term, but I can’t remember it right now and I’m too lazy to go look it up).
Go.

Trish,
I really wanted to read this. I was sick for a few days and missed getting in on B&N. So many people said it was amazing on the site.
I have been following the discussions but I’m kind of sad that you didn’t like it. I did really want to read this.
I will post about your blog on mine…hmm…mine is not that active and I don’t think it automatically shows up on yours because it’s a “Blogspot” I think…the one with the little orange “B” by my name LOL
Thank you for being so sweet and kind. I had to laugh at the (GRUNT) and believe me, I needed to laugh!
Thanks as always “SISTAH”
XO
Amy
I’ll come back with my link….lol You couldn’t think of “Pacific Time” so what? How bad is it that I have to look up my OWN blog link? LOL

Do NOT enter me. I’ve got my own copy, thank you very much, and I’m stuck on page 11. It’s not looking very good for page 12…it may be destined to remain unread.

Re- The Sister- I’m almost finished reading it here and I have to say
this is one incredible piece of work.I’m astounded. Me too I almost said forget it after the first few pages- too detailed- too low key – so I skipped ahead about 20 pages and sure enough it was stunning. So I went back and started from the beginning.
I don’t know how these British writers do it. The good writers- not the chick Lit writers- the real ones. They always start off dull as hell
until you are screaming”SPIT IT OUT- BUDDY” and then all of a sudden you cannot get enough of it.
She is one hot writer- and one impeccable researcher.
Gotta go finish it.
