Trends – Booking Through Thursday

This week’s Booking Through Thursday question is:

Have your book-tastes changed over the years? More fiction? Less? Books that are darker and more serious? Lighter and more frivolous? Challenging? Easy? How-to books over novels? Mysteries over Romance?

The short answer is: No. I’ve always had about the same reading habit, alternating mind candy with lit-ra-chur.

Anyone out there ever go through a romance kick? I think I read a coupla Danielle Steele novels when I was younger, but when I realized that most romance novels are all the same (in my mind), I quickly grew bored.

BUT, I do foresee a lot more fantasy in my future. I’ve seen some recommendations for good fantasy (probably from Raych…Hi, Raych!), and I want to jump right in. So if anyone has any good fantasy recommendations, I’d love to hear from you!

I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m posting TWO DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING…what can I say? I’m an expert at doing everything except what I’m supposed to. Actually, I’ve got so little left to do it’s awesome! And blogging is something that’s “fun” for me. So this is kindofa break. All future posts, though, have already been written, so don’t think I’m actually posting on my wedding day. ‘Cause I won’t be. 😉

Oh, I used to read a lot of Danielle Steele books during my teenaged years! They are sooo good… but like you, I grew bored and turned to others like romance suspense, paranormal romance etc. I hardly read historical romance nowadays too… just not in the mood.

I’m sure you’ve everything settled more or less by now for your wedding!!! So exciting! 🙂 Go relax yourself and be the most beautiful woman on the BIG day!!!!

Hey, have a great wedding. May it last forever and beyond.

I read romances. But prefer historical ones. In fantasies, I like Gaiman and Murakami.

Have a wonderful wedding and honey moon! 🙂 The closest I got to romance were those smutty V.C. Andrews novels. One of my best friends loved them; I think I read three.

I was wondering what you were doing here two days before your wedding, so thanks for answering that :-)!

Fair or not, I have pretty much the same idea about romances, which is why I really don’t read them.

Have a wonderful wedding day, and a fun honeymoon!

Definitely not a fan of romance, but it is nice to read a variety and alternate between “mind-candy” and literature. I throw in nonfiction too, but to each his own. Congrats on your wedding and all the best.

would you GO GET MARRIED already!?!? lol. we’ll miss you and look forward to your return.

have a great time–it will be over before you know it, so make sure you take a minute during the wedding to look around and enjoy the moment. xoxo CWG

I hope you have an absolutely wonderful wedding day!

As for Fantasy recommendations, my all time favorite authors in the genre are Robert Jordan and David Eddings. Warning – each author’s best books are part of a series so you may get hooked! 🙂

    Here’s where I would start:
Robert Jordan – The Eye of the World
David Eddings – Pawn of Prophecy

Let me know if you ever get around to reading them … I want to know if I’ve created a new convert. 🙂

Happy Wedding! I hope your day is everything you’ve always dreamed it would be.

My fave fantasy author is Guy Gavrial Kay – so far, I’ve loved everything I’ve read. I even talked my mom into reading one of his books (she doesn’t read ANY fantasy), and she loved it too. Start with The Lions of Al-Rassan. Good stuff!

Good luck on the big day, I hope it is an exciting and enjoyable day!

As far as fantasy suggestions, if you haven’t read Neil Gaiman yet, I would completely recommend anything by him. I also really like the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix.

Be sure to read “Good Omens” by Terry Pratcherr & Neil Gaiman.

Also, “The Sparrow” by Mary Doria Russell Russel is a decent writer, but a wonderful storyteller.

    Congratulations. Now, go read!
