Book Up For Grabs

The other day I went through my bookcases and my TBR shelf…hahaha!! who am I kidding?! I have a TBR BOOKCASE, and a whole review shelf that is threatening to take over a whole bookcase if I don’t read faster. There should definitely be a Twilight Zone where books take over someone’s house and eventually kill the person. They could film it at my house, if they wanted.

I put a bunch of books on bookmooch (and just found out that I inadvertantly switched where two books were supposed to go…oops!) and other books that I can’t be bothered with will go in a garage sale for super cheap. But there was one book that I didn’t think should be relegated to bookmooch OR a garage sale. I’m bummed that I never could get into it. It was mildly interesting, but somehow I seemed to miss the boat on this one.

Stiff by Mary Roach. This is a great copy…it’s just been sitting in my bookshelf for probably over five years. Alas, I’ll never read it after I tried it once and put it down for something more compelling. So I offer it to you, my dear friends. To be entered to win this book, just leave a comment here, and mention that you want this book. But you have to mention it by title.

The second book I’m giving away I feel very guilty about: What If…? by Steve N. Lee. The author approached me about reviewing his book, to which I agreed. I even saw some nice reviews…. Oh look! Bookfool just did a review the other day, and she has super nice things to say. Mrs. S reviewed it about six weeks ago, and I was very excited to read the book based on her review. But after 60 pages, I just wasn’t invested in the book. The story was fairly interesting and there was definitely some action, but there was just something that didn’t make me want to continue reading. And after thinking about my massive TBR pile, I decided it wasn’t worth it to continue on. I hate to waste a good book, though, so I thought I would pass it on to one of you. To be entered to win this book, just leave a comment here, and mention that you want this book. Again, you have to mention it by title.

Based on the author’s request, I will be donating What If…? to a thrift store.

I’ll draw a winner on Thursday evening. Have at it!

    Hi Trish,

Sorry to hear ‘What if…?’ didn’t grab you. A book can never be all things to everyone, so please don’t feel guilty through thinking you’ve let me down by not being able to give it a good review – as you’ve kindly pointed out, there are loads of positive reviews popping up all over the place. (Interested readers can find extracts from some of them here:

And thanks for honouring my request that the book goes to a thrift store. While I’m sorry to upset those readers who’d have liked a free copy I’m sure they won’t mind when they know their loss means a few extra bucks going to help fight cancer or hunger. (I’m into the environment and human rights, as any readers of my blog will know, so I try to do my bit and encourage others to do likewise.)

All the best with Hey Lady! Whatcha Readin’?. Have a great week,

    Steve N. Lee
author of suspense thriller ‘What if…?’

No need to enter me in the giveaway, but I did want to share with you that you’re not alone in having a “TBR Bookcase” – when the “TBR pile” tookover our bedside stand my husband bought a new bookcase (he feeds my addiction) 🙂

  20. Becca

Oh, I’d love to read Stiff!

Also, I’m super curious as to why the author of What if… wanted you to donate the book instead of giving it to one of us lovely readers…

  21. amy

Stiff sounds fascinating! please enter me(and thanks for the comment).:)

Hi Trish – I’m sorry What If? didn’t work out for you. I had to stop by from google reader to find out why Steve wanted it donated to a Thrift store – my initial thought was ‘why not let another blogger review it – they might like it’ but now I understand – thrift store = donation to a good cause – which suits the book perfectly.
