Stinky Breath

I have a tiny toy poodle named Samson that has taken to eating his own poop. Dave says he takes a dump, turns around and eats it immediately. He doesn’t even wait for it to stop steaming.

The other day Dave was sitting on the couch and saw Samson go outside, poop, and turn right around and eat it. Samson came back inside, jumped on Dave’s lap, and burped.

I’m STILL giggling about this.

Turns out, this is normal behavior for dogs. Gross, but normal.

I think your dog is missing something in his diet. My dog does not eat his poop…this is not normal. Besides, if he eats another dog’s poop, he could get worms or other parasites. EW.

This, in a nutshell, is why we have cats.

Gross! But this post caught my eye because of your dog’s name…my sister just got a terrier mix and they named him Samson…

I remember when my dog was a puppy, he had an insatiable desire for cat poop. So glad he outgrew that!!

Disgusting but totally common. When my dog was a puppy, she was kind of obsessed with my parents’ much older dog, and (this is really gross), when she saw my parents’ dog was pooping, she would stand there and eat it AS IT CAME OUT. Straight from the source. I still shudder at the thought.

That is so disgusting. Reminds me why I don’t want to have a dog! Can you imagine the kisses? Ew. Disinfect that tongue!

I like that you tagged “eating poop” and also just plain “poop” for this post.

Well, hey, I guess it’s better than having to clean it up yourself, right?

I’ve heard that when they do this, it means that their food is not being digested properly.. and that most of the nutrients end up in their little care packages. To them, they are just eating food.

This is why I’m a cat person.

BTW..the icing on the cake with this story was the burp.

    Ick.

Did you teach your dog to like your friends’ faces? It might make a great inside joke (I’m just kidding, sort of – but you should probably mention it to your husband anyway).

OMG, that is disgusting. I have never seen our dog do this, although I could write reams about the disgusting poops he gets from chewing up blankets and chew toys.
