This is for you, Rebecca: The Nicholas Sparks Horrible Dare
I challenged Rebecca from The Book Lady’s Blog to read a Nicholas Sparks book after hearing how terrible he was at the National Book Festival. I meant to do a video that chronicled how I picked out the book that will be her demise Rebecca will have to read, but I didn’t do that, so this video will have to suffice.
Ahh…the joys of challenging someone else to something painful and excruciating is strangely exhilerating.

Haha! The publisher sent me this one. I may have to read it while Rebecca is reading it so I can experience the fun firsthand. His stuff is very popular though. I mean, his books have been made into movies and the like so he must have quite a following.

ACK! You had to go and pick the one that was actually sold as an idea and then written as a screenpaly BEFORE it was ever written as a book! Egads, Trish. I think it’s fair to say I am not looking forward to this.
Ti–I’ll be reading it during the Read-a-Thon if you’d like to join me.
Also, Mr. Sparks reported during his horrific NBF talk that one Miley Cyrus will be starring in the film. I CAN HARDLY WAIT.
Thanks for the dare, Trish
I’m going to start plotting my revenge now.

Of course you don’t think Nicholas Sparks is cute. He looks nothing like your dream man! Michelle and Amy can back me up on this. :-p

[...] And have you seen what she’s selected? She made an awesome video to tell you the whole story right here. [...]

I’m not sure that I’ve ever actually READ any of his stuff, although my mom does. I do enjoy the movie of “The Notebook” for a fun, sappy chick flick. Of course, I’ve not liked any of the other movies that have come from his books.

Very entertaining (and nice to see you again!). I can’t imagine reading a Nicholas Sparks book. Ugh. Good luck, Rebecca!

And here I thought I was the only person who didn’t like Nicolas Sparks. I swear his books make me gag they are so sappy sweet. YUCK!

He’s super sexy! Just ask him
I mean, come on he’s in a tight black tee. What’s not to get hot and bothered over?

I think I have only read one or two of his books. I did enjoy A Walk to Remember. The book and movie.
If the library has this one I will put it on my wish list and see if I can make it through it. lol

LOL!!!! This made my night!!! You’re making her read the book for which he first wrote the screenplay. This was his big idea that Disney bought. ROTFLMAO!!! Like you said, better Rebecca than me.

Heh, my mom loves Nicholas Sparks (she’s very into the sappiness) but even she is willing to admit that they are very formulaic! Good luck to Rebecca! LOL.

All I have to say is to echo Trish: Better Rebecca than me.

This is cracking me up – can’t wait to hear of the result of this challenge. Trish, look out for when it’s payback time.

When I was in line to get my Judy Blume book signed at NBF, there was a 15-ish girl in front of me having an existential crisis. Should she stay in the uber-long Judy Blume line or go to the Nicholas Sparks line? Much to everyone else in line’s horror, she chose Nicholas Sparks. Egad.

Hilarious! I’ve never read any of Sparks books although I have seen at least one of his movies. Great challenge, Trish!

I’m not a fan of him, but The Notebook is one of my favorite movies of all time.
It’s just a matter of hitting you on the right spot once in a blue moon

You crack me up! I went through a Nicholas Sparks phase where I just loved reading all of his books and crying buckets of tears over them. Then at some point I realized that it was just a manipulative formula of taking a romance and adding in something awful and sad, and yes, someone dying.
I haven’t read one of his books since then. I still own some of his books though, so if you ever feel a deep desire to read one of his books, I’d be happy to send one your way.

I actually liked Nicholas Sparks’ older stuff for a time, but his newer stuff was pretty bad. I keep thinking I should read some of his other stuff so I can say I have read all of his books, but I don’t…
