I’m pregnant!

Sometime around April 20, 2011, there will be a little Hey Baby.

(Doesn’t that look like a gummy bear? Nomnomnom…)

I’m now out of my first trimester. It’s been so hard to keep it a secret for so long! Perhaps that’s why you haven’t seen many posts lately…I knew I couldn’t keep my mouth shut! 😉

Everyone seems to have the same questions, so here’s some answers…

Will you find out the gender? Yes! My husband would rather not, but I don’t think I want to do that the first time around. I’m working two jobs and would rather be as prepared as possible. Perhaps if I didn’t have as much on my plate I could be more carefree about it.

Have you had any morning sickness? Nothing I can complain about. 🙁 I’ve had a little, but I never did throw up. Mostly I just had food aversions. For about a month or 6 weeks I only wanted donuts and ice cream. I fought that as best I could, I swear!

Is your family excited? Yes! I’m so so lucky to have an awesome mother-in-law who probably couldn’t be more excited if it was her own child. And before you look at me sideways about the whole MIL thing, let me tell you that she’s got the best boundaries of anyone I know. In the two years Dave and I have been married, she never once asked if and when we’d try to get pregnant. I even told someone else, right in front of her, that we were trying, and she never asked about it. My dad’s pretty stoked since this will be his first grandchild! I know my grandmother is happy because the last time I mentioned we’d be trying for kids soon, she said, Well, you better hurry up! (she’s 93, and I want her to see her first great grandchild, but realistically she was saying to hurry since she might not be around much longer. LOL)

Have you started talking about names? Yes, but the problem is we’ve got good ideas for girls names but no ideas for boys names. 🙁 It’s really important to me to give a nod to relatives who’ve come before us. My grandmother’s name is Verna, her husband’s name was Vernon…see the dilemma? 😉

If you have more questions, ask away and I’ll answer them all! Not sure if I’ll answer them in the comments or by modifying the post…will have to think on that.

Oh, and before I go, I want to mention some other bloggers who I consider friends (or consider myself to be their blog stalker) who are pregnant as well:

  • Liz from Mabel’s House
  • Wendy from Musings of a Bookish Kitty
  • Tanya from mamatots (I met Tanya on a forum for women due during April 2011, and we’ve got so much in common that I took an instant liking to her!)
  • Nicole at Making it Lovely (she’s not really my friend, but I like her blog)
  • And some other people who I’m not sure want to be called out. If this is you, let me know and I’ll add you in!

Congratulations! Such an exciting time 🙂

I gave my family their first grandchild and the pressure was a bit much at times. It is great to hear that you have a more supportive family – it will make everything much easier.

    Good luck with everything.

Congratulations! Do take it easy and enjoy this journey as much as you possibly can. I totally understand about wanting your grandmother to see your child. My granny is in her mid-90s and was absolutely thrilled when I had my now troublesome 4 year old. The two of them have a wonderful relationship and I’m so grateful for that. Grannies are special but great-grans, that’s just awesome. And don’t worry, the right name will come.

It had been told that my dad wanted to name me Vada–after an aunt. And I had an uncle named Virgil as well, so I hear ya on the V names. . .

Enjoy this time as much as you can. Your little one will be here before you know it.

Congratulations! Enjoy this special time! And lucky you, avoiding a summer pregnancy! I was the first to have a baby on my side of the family, and my grandfather was so excited to become a great-grandfather. My daughter only had a few years with him, but she’s got tons of memories and I always remind her how special she was to him.

Congratulations! I remember you saying that you guys were trying. This must be such a scary yet exciting time for you. I totally can’t help you with the naming part. I just knew when I was pregnant with my last two kids that they were going to be girls because I could only come up with girl names. Wrong! They ended up being boys and I had almost zero time to find a good name. Try the book 20,001 names for baby. They have a lot of really good names in there. Good luck to you! 😀

Congratulations Trish! How fun to have the blogging world to share the excitement with in addition to the more “real” world of friends and family! Congratulations! I am a firm believer that if you can only think of names for one gender, there’s probably a reason for that. I had lots of ideas for girl names, but none that my husband liked too but boy names were easy for us and, voila, Daniel! The same thing just happened to my friend, so perhaps there’s a reason for your boy name block.

I am so happy for you! I got all verklempt reading this! Take it easy, enjoy every moment. Keep a pregnancy journal, your little one will want to know more about his/her “early” life when they get older. I’m always here, night or day, of you have any questions. Even those “eww” questions that people are embarrassed to ask…I’m here for you!

    [Reply]

  32. Amanda ()

Congrats!! Supposedly not having a lot of morning sickness indicates you’re supposed to have a boy, which was true in all three of my pregnancies, but since I never had a girl I couldn’t really put it to the test. We were the exact opposite – we never had problems coming up with boys’ names, but spent months figuring out girls’ names that we never needed to use. 😀

Seems like a lot of bloggers are pregnant. I don’t know the people on your list, but I know several off that list…

Congratulations, Trish! How exciting! I had the same kind of food aversions/food cravings when I was pregnant. Luckily for me it was mostly cravings for healthy food. Except for enchiladas with my oldest. As for the names, you can totally go back further in your family history to pick a name and still make everyone happy. My grandma was Madge–no way, right? But she loved that I used Hannah which was the name of the first person on her side of the family to come to the country.

Oh Trish, I’m so happy for you! It’s a baby boom in the blogosphere – my second (another boy!) is due February 26. April is a wonderful time of the year to have a baby.

I always say it’s never to early to start building your child’s library. So go grab some Dr. Seuss and Sandra Boynton, and make sure baby has a good book shelf in his/her room.

If you’re looking for unsolicited advice from one reader to another – one of the greatest things I did when my son was an infant was learn to breastfeed in a position that allowed me to prop up a book. My son was a marathon nurser and the day I figured out how to use my knees to hold up the boppy, hold his head with one hand and a book in the other was probably the day my life with a newborn got a little easier.

Of course, you must knit/corchet a few things for Hey Baby. There are so many cute things to make, but then you have already made several for friends babies. These get to be for your wee one. I bet the knitting process is different when it is for your own child.

Cindy has been knitting up a storm for her grandson-to-be, Vincent Christopher, Vinnie for short. She even put a few in the county fair and won prizes. The showers are over so her daughter has them all now, not that Cindy has stopped knitting.

I agree about honoring relatives — both my kids are named (first and middle) after special relatives. We did have to use a variation of a name for my daughter because the two names didn’t go together. So, we used “Olivia” instead of “Olive”. I normally wouldn’t have picked a trendy name, but I don’t mind since it’s linked to family.
